It came into existence in 1 January 2012 and was earlier part of Surguja district. It is a district of Chhattisgarh, India, with headquarters in Balrampur, Chhattisgarh. The Balrampur-Ramanujganj district lies on the northern part of Chhattisgarh state. The district is bound on north and northeast of its parent district namely Surguja district. The district is famous for its rich wildlife as it has very thick cover of forest.The total area of the district is approximately 3806.08 km2. Balrampur district is one of the 26th districts of Chhattisgarh state. It is the most populous town of the Balrampu district .Ramanujganj is the border town of Chhattishgarh-Jharkhand State.The nearest airports are Ranchi and Raipur.
